ವೈದಿಕ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರೊಬ್ಬರ ಮಗನಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಡಾ. ಆನಂದರಾಮ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯರು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಪಾಡಿಗೆ ಬ್ಯಾಂಕಿಂಗ್‌ ವೃತ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದರೂ ಅವರ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ತುಡಿತ ತೀವ್ರವಿದ್ದು, ಸಮಾನಾಂತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸ ಪಡೆದರು, ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಡಾಕ್ಟರೇಟ್‌ ಪದವಿಗೆ ಹುಟ್ಟೂರಿನ ಅತೀ ಸೆಳೆತದ ವಿಷಯವಾದ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನವನ್ನೇ ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು, ನಂತರದಲ್ಲೂ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯರು ನಿವೃತ್ತಿಯ ನಂತರವೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಹಾಗೂ ಅನೇಕ ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ವಿಷಯವೂ ಸೇರಿ ಪ್ರಬಂಧ / ಲೇಖನ/ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಲೇ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ನಮ್ಮ ಯಕ್ಷವಾಹಿನಿ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ವಿಶ್ವಸ್ಥರಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬರಾದ ಡಾ. ಆನಂದರಾಮ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯರ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಗ್ರಂಥಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಯಕ್ಷಗಾನ ಪ್ರಸಂಗ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಪ್ರತಿಸಂಗ್ರಹ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ಅವಶ್ಯವಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಅವರ ಮನೆಗೆ ನಿನ್ನೆ ಹೋದಾಗ, ಅವರ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗ ಅರ್ಣವ್ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶನ (ಹನ್ನೊಂದು ವರ್ಷದ ಹುಡುಗ) ಪರಿಚಯವೂ ಆಯಿತು, ಅವನು ಬರೆದ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯೂ ಆಯಿತು, ಅದರ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಮಾತುಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನ ಮೊದಲ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಸಾಹಸದ ಕಥೆಯೂ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು.
ಡಾ. ಆನಂದರಾಮ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯರ ಮಗಳು ಸೀಮಂತಿನಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಳಿಯ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ್ ಎಸ್‌. ಎನ್. ಅವರ ಪುತ್ರ ಅರ್ಣವ್. ತನ್ನ ಹೆತ್ತವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆಫ್ರಿಕಾದ ಮಸೈಮಾರಾಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸ ಹೋದಾಗ, ಅಪ್ಪ ಅವನಿಗೆ ವಿಶೇಷವಾದ, ವನ್ಯಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವಾದ ಕೆಮರಾವನ್ನು ಬಾಡಿಗೆಗೆ ಕೊಡಿಸಿದರು, ಅವರದ್ದೇ ಕೆಮರಾ ಅವರಿಗೇ ಬೇಕಿತ್ತಲ್ಲ. ಮೊದಲೇ ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪ್ಪನ ಕೆಮರಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೈಯಾಡಿಸಿದ್ದ ಅರ್ಣವ್ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದ, ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬಂದವಲ್ಲ, ಅವುಗಳ ಸುತ್ತ ತನ್ನ ಅನುಭವದ ಆಧಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನೇ ಬರೆದ, ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳು ಅದನ್ನು ಧರಣಿ ಪ್ರಿಂಟರ್ಸ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಿಸಿದರು. ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಇತ್ತ ಮಾರಾಟಕ್ಕೂ ಹೋಯಿತು.
ಅಮೆಙಾನ್‌, ಸ್ವಪ್ನಾ ಬುಕ್‌ ಹೌಸ್‌ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಪುಸ್ಕಕವು ಮಾರಾಟಕ್ಕೂ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ.

ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭ, ಅರ್ಣವ್ ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಸಮಾರಂಭ ಒಂದರ ಹೊರೆ ತನ್ನ ಹೆತ್ತವರಿಗೆ ಬೇಡ ಎಂದ, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಅದರ ಕುರಿತಾಗಿ ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ನನಗೆ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಕೊಡಬೇಕೆನ್ನಿಸಿತು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಬರಹ.
ಹುಡುಗ ಪ್ರಾಯದವರಿಗಾಗಿಯೇ ಹುಡುಗನೊಬ್ಬ ತಾನೇ ವನ್ಯ ಛಾಯಾಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬರೆದುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ, ಹಾಗೂ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಸಾಹಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಹುಡುಗ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಅಗಾಧವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗಬಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲೂ ಈ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಬರವಣಿಗೆ ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. ಇದನ್ನು ಓದುವ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ವನ್ಯ ಪ್ರಾಣಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚುವುದಲ್ಲದೇ ತಾನೂ ಈ ರೀತಿಯ ಸೃಜನಶೀಲ ಸಾಹಸಗಳಿಗೆ ಏಕೆ ಇಳಿಯಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ಸುಳಿಯದೇ ಇರದು, ಅವರ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಆ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಚಂತನೆ ಬಂದೀತು, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಾಹಸವು ಪ್ರಶಂಸನೀಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

Dr. Anandarama Upadhya is a banker by profession and a researcher / writer in Kannada by qualification and hobby. He pursued higher education in the language of Kannada while working in the banking profession, and chose his favorite subject Yakshagana as his further academic research subject. Since retirement, he is busy teaching in Kannada and writing books /articles around various subjects including his favorite topic Yakshagana.
Dr. Anandarma Upadhya is one of the trustees of Yakshavahini, dedicated to empower Yakshagana literature documentation for free global use through the internet. I needed his prized collections of Yakshagana prasanga books for our project of PrasangaPrathiSangraha (scanning of Yakshagana Prasanga books and making them available on the net), and was in his home to collect the books. I met with his grandson Arnav Venkatesh, the son of Seemanthini (Anandrama Upadhya's daughter) and Venkatesh S N. Arnav is just 11 years old.
As we spoke, I learned about his recent writing adventure, also got his published travelogue book as a gift for me. As the story around this book unfolded, I felt that this adventure needs some publicity in my circle, especially because Arnav declined publicity event during the book release to avoid additional burden to his parents.
This book is quite impressive from the perspective that the wild life photographs used are taken by Arnav himself. Though he had dabbled with his dad's camera before, dad was busy in this trip with his own camera, so he borrowed another camera exclusively for Arnav which too was suitable for wildlife photography. Arnav's photos came well, so he decided to write a travelogue around them, the parents arranged for the publication and the book was published through Dharani Printers.
This book is written by a kid, and for kids. But the parents of the kids too should consider this book. While the books stands on its own to justify its value for the young readers, the inspiration value for the young minds is quite high when they ask the very important question for themselves as to what will it take to engage in such amazing creative adventure in their own context. The parents too will mull around the same question as to how they can help their kid's creativity further now.
